کھیوڑہ کی کان میں بیس بستروں والا ایک ہسپتال بنانے کا منصوبہ بھی ہے، جہاں دمے کے مریض آسکیں گے اور نمک زدہ ہوا میں سانس لے سکیں گے کیونکہ کہا جاتا ہے کہ یہ ہوا دمے کے مریض کیلیے انتہائی صحت بخش ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ ایک اور عمدہ بات یہ ہے کہ کان کے قریب نمک کی چٹانوں سے بنی ہوئی ایک خوبصورت مسجد بھی ہے جو کان کی سیر کو آنے والے لوگوں میں بہت مقبول ہے۔ کان کے مزدور تو شاذ و نادر ہی وہاں کام روک کر جاپاتے ہیں۔

 کھیوڑہ کان کا نمک دنیا میں خوردنی نمک کا دوسرا سب سے بڑا ذخیرہ ہے۔ تخمینے کے مطابق یہاں نمک کے ذخائر 8 کروڑ ٹن سے لے کر 60 کروڑ ٹن تک ہوسکتے ہیں۔ کان کے چیف مائننگ آفیسر کے مطابق برطانوی دور سے اب تک کان میں کچھ تبدیل نہیں ہوا اور نہ ہی ہونے کے امکانات ہیں

۔ ان کے خیال میں کان میں کسی قسم کی سرمایہ کاری ایک فضول حرکت ہوگی کیونکہ دنیا میں راک سالٹ یا معدنی نمک کی قیمتیں نہایت کم ہوچکی ہیں۔ اس کے برعکس برطانوی دور میں معدنی نمک اس قدر اہم تھا کہ برطانوی راج نے اس پر قبضہ کرنا ضروری سمجھا۔ ایک معروف انگریز مائننگ انجینئر ڈاکٹر وارتھ نے نمک کے ذخائر تک براہ راست رسائی کیلیے بڑی کان کی کھدائی کروائی جو تاحال فعال ہے۔ سائنسی اصولوں کے مطابق کان سے 50 فیصد نمک نکال کر 50 فیصد بطور ستون چھوڑ دیا جاتا ہے، جو کان کی مضبوطی کو قائم رکھتا ہے
